Podcasts.
What started as a bit of fun turned into something so much more.
Necessity is the mother of invention… right ?
The Covid Pandemic hit everyone very hard, one of the most affected industries being mine… The Live events and Music industry. Boredom and too much time on my hands let to the creation of these three Podcasts…
The An Stiúideo Sessions Podcast
Being a Musician my first thought was music, what about a podcast that can still bring music to the masses without them ever having to leave their homes. Enter the An Stiúideo Sessions.
The podcast was weekly and it usually saw me, interviewing artists from around the city and county of Galway and Eventually from different parts of the country as the TikTok phase took over.
They were about 40 mins to an hour in length and comprised of an interview section as well as a performance section.
The podcast was recorded by myself with mulitcam video, as well as mixed and edited in post.
I also did regular live streams following this format.
The B Team Subs Podcast
Rules for ‘bubbles’ as well as self covid testing paved the way for another Podcast. The B Team Subs.
Myself and a couple of friends had always joked about starting a podcast in secondary school and naturally enough since we were sitting at home unable to go to work, It was time to to put those plans into action.
Myself and the boys agreed to a two week isolation period and then got to work on the new pod.
Inspired by the incredible work of The 2 Johnnies we decided to take a stab at the comedy panel genre and lo and behold it was a success with our first episode gathering over 1k views in less that two days. It followed a very simple format, everyone showed up with a couple news topics from around the world and we took a satirical look at them. Other segments were later added into the show such as a conspiracy theory section and an Agony aunt section.
We also leant heavily into the TikTok craze for all our Social Media.
This was both a video and audio podcast, shot with multiple cameras in the room as well as being mixed as live with all sound fx being triggered live by myself.
It was chaos at the best of times but it made for very enjoyable listening that was well mixed and lots of fun to produce.
The Armchair Syndicate
The end of the pandemic was in sight and following the success of the previous two podcasts I thought one more wouldn’t hurt.
Following the success of the previous two podcasts I had been approached by a radio station in regards to a presenting job, however I was too young and still in college at the time so I had to turn it down.
Roll on a month or so later and Spotify had announced they were releasing a Podcast tool in association with Anchor which allowed podcasters to insert music from Spotify directly into their show on Spotify.
It was the whole radio situation all over again.
I gathered two buddies and came up with another show, this time I wanted to focus more on conversation, make it like radio talk show with breaks for music.
All the music was played live in the studio on a set of Denon Prime 4 decks to ensure timing was kept the same and then later replaced on the anchor platform when it came to the edit.
We also leant heavily into the TikTok craze for all our Social Media for this podcast too.
This was an audio only podcast and was by far the most polished in terms of production, you’d hope so after having two goes at it previously !
